An expert panel of Mrs Gread-Power, Mr Power, Mrs Caldwell, and Mr Lanham debated and deliberated, finding the best costumes for each category. Congratulations to Jack B (Year 12) for winning the DIY category with his intricately self-made costume! In an incredible act of kindness, he gave the prize of a tuckshop voucher to the worthy runner-up for the category, Jessi S (Year 10), who hand-sewed her outfit as Lady Macbeth.

YEAR 3s - TALK FOR WRITING | At Nambour Christian College, we are committed to finding innovative ways to enhance our students' ̶Ƶ experiences. This year, we are trialling a new 'Talk for Writing' initiative with our Year 3 students. This program, designed to strengthen students' writing skills through a unique and engaging approach, is already showing promising results, filling us with hope for the future of our students' ̶Ƶ!
What is 'Talk for Writing'? 'Talk for Writing' is an evidence-based program developed by the acclaimed literacy expert Pie Corbett. The core idea of the program is to help children develop their writing abilities by first ̶Ƶ to talk about the stories they will eventually write. By internalising language patterns and story structures through speaking and listening activities, children are better prepared to translate their thoughts into written words.
The program is divided into three stages: imitation, innovation, and invention. In the imitation stage, students learn to retell a model text through repetition, actions, and drama, which helps them become familiar with the language and structure of a well-written piece. In the innovation stage, they adapt the model text, making small changes to create a new version of the story. Finally, in the invention stage, students use their acquired skills and knowledge to create their own original stories.
Why 'Talk for Writing'? - Builds confidence - Enhances creativity - Reinforces key literacy skills - Fosters a love for writing
Our Year 3 students have enthusiastically embraced 'Talk for Writing'. They love the program's interactive nature, particularly the use of actions and drama to retell stories. Teachers have reported that students are more engaged during literacy lessons and show greater confidence in their writing abilities. We are already seeing improvements in their writing, with many students demonstrating a more sophisticated use of language and a deeper understanding of story structure.
We are excited to see where this initiative takes our Year 3 students and look forward to sharing more success stories from our young writers. ... See MoreSee Less
